Coalition for the Homeless

Every 4th Friday of the month, is WPPC's time to provide and serve the evening meal at the Coalition for the Homeless, downtown Orlando. This is a great way to involve individuals, our youth...and their families, in a volunteer opportunity for our church, community, as well as a fellowship with each other.

We meet at the WPPC kitchen at 5:45 pm, sort toiletries/personal items donated by WPPC members, load the bus with our meal (already prepared by our staff), hop on the bus, and away we go to The Coalition. While there, we have many tasks including serving our 5 huge pans of famous layer salad or our pasta dish (we alternate our meal month to month), handing out 400 brownies, 400 sandwiches, 8 gal milk, lemonade, eating utensils, and the toiletries. The Coalition is very organized in making sure this process of getting 300+ homeless through the dinner line runs efficiently!!! We return to the church by 8:30 PM.

We can fit 25 of us on the bus, along with our meal, so be sure to email or call  by Thursday if you wish to join us. If you can't make it this month, just know you can join us any 4th Friday of the month. Watch for updates in The Covenanter and WPPC bulletins.

 

                Opportunities to Help

Serve the evening meal---join us in the WPPC kitchen at 5:45 pm, to return by 8:30 pm. Contact: Christie Shelton at 407.539.6596 or cshel515828@msn.com. 

   Prepare the meal---9:30 am till noon, under the direction of Jennifer     Roe. Contact: Kathy Anderson at 407.647.4477 or kathy@distdata.com.

Bagging Brownies---4th Friday of each month, 9 am-11 am. Contact: Elizabeth Brownlee at 407.407.671.1654.

Donate travel size toiletries---especially disposable razors, soap and deodorant.   Place in the Coalition Box in Fellowship Hall. WE ARE IN GREAT NEED OF ALL TOILETRIES.... PLEASE REMEMBER THE COALITION DURING YOUR HOTEL STAYS OR SHOPPING TRIPS. More items to donate---plastic storage or sturdy carry-out containers, QUAKER Chewy Granola Bars (60 per box from COSTCO) for us to add to our dinner line. Also, gently used baseball caps, canvas and/or environmental friendly tote bags.
 

Financial donation--- Make check out to WPPC. Note on the memo line... Coalition for the Homeless.  Mail to WPPC or bring to church office.

Choir for the Coalition---Member of the WPPC choir?  Just like to sing or play an instrument?  Either way, we have room on the bus!  Join us any month to be a part of the evening. No practice necessary...just pick a few songs while riding on the bus down. We provide the sheet music. Your hymms will bring joy to many folks..a few may just join in.

Cards for the Coalition---Donate pre-stamped greeting/holiday cards to the Coalition Box.  We distribute them to any interested homeless folks as they move through the dinner line, to address to loved ones and/or friends. We mail the cards for them.
