Parish Nurse Ministry

Here's H.O.P.E. for you!

 Healthy Outcomes through Personal Empowerment

The centerpiece of the Parish Nurse Program is the annual HOPE Assessment.  The HOPE Assessment is a way to monitor the health of the Congregation.  Through physical, emotional, and spiritual healing, Jesus showed us throughout his ministry how God provides us with all we need to have an abundant life. In this time of technological advances and abundant medical information, we still have so much illness because our view of health has become very limited.

Seeing health as absence of disease, we are passive until something hurts; we treat symptoms instead of causes; we expend too much of our health care money on Band-Aids instead of on prevention. We need to reach out toward wholeness. For Christians, the natural pathway to God's wholeness lies through the Church, and statistical studies also show that those involved with their faith are generally healthier and view themselves as having a higher quality of life.

To raise health awareness of this congregation, Winter Park Memorial Hospital and Winter Park Presbyterian Church have established the WPPC Health Ministries and Parish Nurse programs. Details on upcoming congregational health programs will be posted, or you may contact Rebecca Monfalcone, our parish nurse, for more information.

HOPE Re-Assessment – Sunday, April 24, 2005

The first HOPE Assessment, in 2003, was used to create a base line of the Health of the Winter Park Congregation.  A detailed evaluation was performed on 170 volunteers from the Congregation, including blood pressure, a blood draw and a detailed questionnaire filled out by each volunteer.  This year, on April 24th,  these volunteers will be re-assessed, to help judge the effectiveness of the Parish Nurse Program on the overall health of the Congregation.  We look forward to the continued participation of these dedicated volunteers.

Blood Pressure Readings – Second Sunday (except April)

The Health Cabinet is offering free Blood Pressure readings between services, the second Sunday of every month.  The readings will be taken in the lounge, just across from the church office.

Service of Wholeness and Healing – Second Tuesday, January, March, May, July, September and November

The Service of Wholeness and Healing is a very personal, contemplative service featuring the “Laying on of Hands”.  It is held at 7:30 in the Chapel.
